Firstar Gains CMMC Level 2 Certification, Reinforcing Its Position as a Trusted Defense Supplier
Brunswick, OH — August 6, 2026 – Firstar Precision Corp., a leading provider of precision CNC machining solutions, announced today that it has achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2. The certification confirms that Firstar has fully implemented all 110 security practices outlined in NIST SP 800-171 and passed an independent audit by a Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO), positioning the company among a small group of suppliers cleared to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) for defense programs.
CMMC Level 2 is the baseline the Department of Defense expects from Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers touching CUI, and it is increasingly written directly into defense contracts as a flow-down requirement.
Achieving it is a demanding process. Most organizations report 12 to 24 months from start to finish, and industry estimates put the assessment failure rate at roughly 80%. Of the estimated 80,000 to 300,000 suppliers expected to need CMMC certification, fewer than 3% have reached full Level 2 status to date.
