A Brief History of Firstar Precision Machining Company
Our story began in May 2000, when our founders David Tenny and Jack Horstman recognized the continued need for machining services out of the remains of their recently shut-down employer. They leased a 2,500 sq. ft. facility, hired five employees, installed three new machines (with the help of Hardinge, where David had worked out of high school) and got to work.
Their focus was to do the jobs that no one else wanted while providing outstanding quality and customer service. The gamble paid off, and within one month, we already had a need for additional machines. The continued growth required additional help and in May 2001, Jack West (our current VP of Operations) was added to the team.
One thing Dave recalls is Jack’s ability to think out-of-the-box with manufacturing methods, including a unique gear-cutting methodology that was needed to further propel the company’s growth. We then acquired Engstrom Manufacturing in 2002 and operated two facilities until 2003 when the company consolidated into a 12,000 sq. ft. facility.
From 2003 to 2018, we continued adding customers, machinery, and service capabilities until moving to our current 27,000 sq. ft. facility in Brunswick, OH in 2018. In late 2020, we were approached by Empowered Ventures, an ESOP holding company, and Firstar was acquired in April 2021.
We are proud to say we are now a 100% employee-owned company still founded on the cornerstone of outstanding quality and customer service. We continue to take the jobs that no one else wants, expand our service offerings, and continually search for better ways to serve our customers.
